Dr. Jean Allen is the medical director for South Tampa Medspa and Wellness Center, Inc.. She opened the doors to her wellness and medspa center in July of 2007. It is located in the Palma Ceia neighborhood of South Tampa. Dr. Allen is an osteopathic family practice physician who has chosen to practice medicine using a more functional and holistic approach to treatment. The center has made a difference to many people seeking solid alternatives to traditional pharmaceutical approaches to health management.

Dr. Allen, originally from Washington D.C., attended the University of Maryland at the College Park campus earning her BS degree there. She later completed her medical training at the Philadelphia College Osteopathic Medicine in 1982. In 1990, she finished her residency at the University of Florida’s Family Practice program in Jacksonville, Florida. She soon after joined a very traditional multi physician group in the area. Later, Dr. Allen practiced independently of the large group, but continued to practice traditional medicine until 1997.

It was in 1997 that she began to question more seriously the overuse of drugs and the lack of alternative choices. At that time, her patients were referred to a pain specialist when indicated. She however saw her patients return often with even more pain and enduring drug side effects after placement on stronger and more toxic drugs.

In 1998, Dr. Allen first moved to the Tampa Bay area, where she joined the practice of a holistic physician. She saw first hand how medicine could be practiced differently and people could get well without the dependence on prescription medications. She began to do her personal research,and reading about the alternative options that were available and that really worked... This was the beginning of her journey into the world of functional and integrative medicine. This continues to be a dynamic and ongoing process of choosing the best diagnostic and treatment tools customized to address the medical, emotional and other needs of her patient thereby enabling his or her health to reach such improved states that certainly exceed their expectations.
